Loreto is considered the oldest human settlement
in the Peninsula of Baja California dating back nearly 12,000
years. It is located 359 km to the north of La Paz via Federal
Highway 1 in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The European colonizers
were the first to establish the town of Loreto because of its
sweet water oasis and arid climate. Loreto has since been the
center of many important events in the history of the Californias.
In
the Loreto area, there is approximately 250 km of coastline,
750 square km. of sea and 14 islands. The Sierra La Giganta
mountains overlook the town of Loreto and create a breathtaking
panoramic view. The area is rich with amazing plant and animal

sunny days and a year round temperature averaging in the 80's.
